VEA (Vancouver Events Assistant)

About the project

I guided students through developing an AI-powered social activity discovery platform designed to help international and domestic students find local events and build community connections in Vancouver. I mentored the team in creating comprehensive user personas and storyboards for three distinct user types: international students seeking familiar activities, those looking to overcome social isolation, and local students wanting to expand their social circles. During the design process, I provided feedback on their user flow architecture, particularly around onboarding, AI-powered event matching, and calendar integration features. Through playtesting sessions and user interviews, I helped them identify critical design issues including navigation clarity, content hierarchy, and accessibility concerns. My guidance focused on addressing trust and credibility challenges, streamlining navigation icons, improving visual consistency across pages, and enhancing inclusivity through avatar customization and language options - ultimately helping them create a more intuitive platform that reduces cognitive load for international students navigating unfamiliar cultural environments.
