About the project
I guided students through developing a mobile application designed to help international students in Vancouver find events, build community connections, and reduce cultural shock through AI-powered assistance. I mentored the team in conducting comprehensive domain research, helping them identify that 96% of international students experience loneliness and need platforms for cultural adaptation. During the design process, I provided feedback on their iterative wireframing approach, supporting their decision to prioritize community discovery over event-focused navigation to better encourage friendship building. I facilitated their user testing methodology with three international students at SFU, helping them identify critical usability issues including navigation difficulties, carousel interaction problems, and AI feature visibility. My guidance focused on refining their interaction design consistency, improving button labeling clarity, and enhancing the AI assistance feature to be more proactive in providing cultural context - ultimately helping them create a more intuitive platform that addresses both social connection and cultural adaptation needs for international students.
